The Pay Check Factor
"Lot of people are interested in something and I'm going to be brutally honest, is because there's a better paycheck. Usually, when something gets a lot of hype, it means there is money in it. Things that do not have so much money in it, generally doesn't get so much of hype or it doesn't trend so much."
Relatability and Emotional Relevance
"The second one is the subject is intriguing because there is a level of relatability to that subject. That is one of the reasons why a lot of people like psychology. That is one of the reasons why we have too many pop psychologists as well. Because you can relate to what is happening and as a result of it, you are like, Huh, I also know it. I also have been through it."
The Illusion of Simplicity
"And people get excited about design because it feels like common sense. And it is a lot of common sense. The problem with common sense is it's not so common. That is another reason why people relate to it really, really heavily. You cannot relate to rocket science. You cannot relate to analytical geometry or linear algebra or quadratic equations. These are hard things. But making a drop down and creating a checkbox sounds easier."
Beyond the Surface: Genuine Curiosity
"If you chose none of the above, others is an option, then let's talk. Because then probably there is curiosity. There is a genuine interest. Or there is this, oh, my God, I can do a better job than my designer in the office."
The Reality Check: Core Skills Matter
"The core skills are hard work but we always want an easy route a shortcut and the shortcut to careers in design is what usually people look for the magic pill to get into it and let me burst the truth that there is nothing called as a magic pill at the max people who don't know design might hire you as a designer and not just them their organization also suffers because of the lack of competency of the designer."
